Script your own happiness

Most of us often leave the remote control of our happiness in the hands of others. And then we regret it. There’s a limit to the happiness and contentment we can get from others. It’s a totally refreshing and rewarding feeling to be at peace with oneself.
Our busy work schedules give us barely any time to sit by ourselves. But that’s a significant part of our growth, and it’s something we can do without much effort. It would be nice if we realise it early on in life and work towards that.
As you wake up, do a good stretch on the bed itself and sit up and breathe deep. Practice a few asanas and reap the benefits in life. Or you could join a dance or Yoga class so that gives you extra motivation.
Mindfulness is an ancient practice that’s fast catching up with today’s youth. Owing to our fast lives, there’s quite a need to slow down our pace and let our thoughts sink in. In layman’s terms, it is being present in the moment and being completely in it. It today’s stressful life, it might be difficult to shut out our anxieties and worries and to fully enjoy the moment. There are various mindfulness practices we can adopt to calm ourselves, sharpen our minds and to help achieve greater things.
Read a book, that’s definitely more calming than watching a movie or videos. Enjoy the plot and let the story sink in. Allow yourself to be transported to another world. If something interests you, write it down. If there’s a character you enjoyed, note it down or review the book and rate it.
Learn a new language or join a hobby club. You might have to dedicate half a day each week to keep up. If you love the outdoors, do some gardening or painting, go for a walk or take your dog out to the road.
There’s no substitute for spending time with ourselves. It boosts our confidence, increases our self respect and self worth and perks up our mood each day. Love yourself so that you can love your life better!
