Plans work, if planned right!

There’s a lot of fun in quickly made plans and trips and that occasional surprise vacation. We love to spring up on people just like that, making do with potlucks and leftovers.
But lists and plans always have their relevance. Whether it’s a lavish wedding or a casual dinner, when we plan well we can execute well. Same goes for managing a home. There are so many things to be checked, numbered, put in order, listed, done and redone, repaired, paid for, etc. If you’re having a large number of guests over, it’s best to have a plan—food, décor, gifts, music and more.
Even on a regular day, lists for the home help. Have one each for things to buy, gadgets that need to be checked, functions and important events to attend, errands to run and the like. Name the lists or use different colour papers and tags to label them. Or be creative and make a pin-up board in the kitchen or a corridor.
Travelling without a plan works for some, but for others a good list will help. Don’t forget to classify them according to priority: medicines, clothes, accessories, kids’ things, food, etc.
If you have pets at home, make sure you have recorded their vaccinations and care schedules. Reminders are useful. Use ones on your phone if that’s easier. If you are likely to forget, ask your partner to help you with it.
Always pays to keep your emergency numbers and contacts of immediate family members handy. Also update all your lists and plans in time so that everyone is abreast of them.
Budgets help you have a grip of your finances. Make weekly, monthly and yearly budgets to stay well-organised. Have budgets for individuals as well as for the house. Set goals that are reachable and motivate yourself to change life habits, if necessary.
And of course it’s always best to have back up plans. You never know when technology fails or people forget to turn up or when something crops up that needs your attention. So plan properly and stay ahead!
