A pet in the home makes life more enriching for you. While there is no argument about that aspect, much needs to be said about ensuring that your pet too finds the experience enriching and enjoyable. Another aspect is ensuring that your home remains clean and hygienic even with pets cohabiting in it. With most people now opting for apartments or gated communities, it may not always be easy to take your pets outdoors regularly. Here are a few tips to ensure that you, your pet and your home get the most out of each other.
Without ample exercise, your pet will suffer bone and muscle issues which will lead to a compromised life. A morning walk or an evening stroll is all they need, if it is a cat or a dog that you own. For birds and other pets, your vet will be able to guide you on an appropriate exercise regimen.
Play time is another great way to bond with your pet and also give them some activity. A game of fetch, hide and seek, finding a hidden treat etc. can invigorate a dog like nothing else can. Add some lavish praises on the fellow and he’ll be more than eager to show you he’s a good boy. These sessions can also help you and your pet understand and respond to each other well.
While you do need to establish some ground rules and make sure your pet obeys them at all times, pampering your pet builds a bond like no other between animal and human and this will bring about more obedience than any fear tactic. Moreover, that look of utter love in a dog’s eyes or that purr of contentment from a cat sure can bust any stress you might be having.
Hygiene in the house:
Furry pets can bring fleas and ticks into the house. These can get onto their bedding first and from there on to yours. Though there are medicines to keep pets tick or mite free, regularly spraying a 1:1 vinegar and water solution along the walls can also help effectively take care of this issue. Did you know that you can also give your pets a rub down with this solution to get rid of allergens on their skin? Remember to always dilute the vinegar with water.
Rid that smell:
One of the most common problems that a pet household faces is the smell. While cleaning out their cages or beddings regularly, sun drying bed linen etc. can help in getting rid of the smell, visitors will probably still remark at that distinct animal smell. The trick to ridding your house of animal smell is to mop your house a couple of times a month with detergent powder. Yes, you read that right. Try it, but don’t overdo it. Then invite a few friends over to test it out.
So with a little extra care, you can make the home happy & hygienic for the family and the pets.
