This New Year, Declutter Your Home & Mind
Posted on December 26,2016 | By admin2
The New Year is upon us and there cannot be any better time to give your home a complete clean-up. Remove all the unwanted stuff, recycle the still usable ones, fix broken things, organise the home in time for New Year. This is the perfect time to declutter your home as well mind. What could be better than ushering in 2017 in a clean, clutter-free and organized environment! Read on to see how you can achieve this:
Throw away all useless things: As the year-end approaches, take a good look and round up all the unwanted clothes, toys, books, papers and all things that are unnecessary. All the unwanted things should immediately be put away into the trash pile. Do not hoard them anymore. Removing all the unnecessary stuff will make your house cleaner and brighter. You will also feel a sense of accomplishment after such a huge clean-up.
Fix all that’s broken: The New Year is the best time to fix all broken furniture and décor pieces at home—be it a lampshade, cupboard, book shelf, etc. You may have been putting it off for the longest time possible, but now is the time to do it. Get the tools out and fix all that needs to be replaced in one go.
Organise Better: Now that all the clutter is gone, it’s the best time to organize your things—clothes, books, kitchen, and other work and personal stuff. Starting the New Year with everything sorted and organised puts one in a positive state of mind. Keeping everything organised also helps one function better.
Make a clean-up plan: Don’t decide to clean everything at one go. And don’t start suddenly as that’s likely to exhaust you. First make an action plan, taking one room and at a time and setting timeframe for each. This will help you work easier, faster and more efficiently.
Recycle/Donate Stuff: You don’t necessarily have to throw everything away. After clearing away all unnecessary things, segregate the remaining into ‘to be given away’ and ‘to be recyled’ piles. Things that you may no longer need but could be useful to some other person, can be neatly put into a box and given away later. After all, this is the season to give and spread smiles! Recycle those items, which you think can be innovatively used. For eg: a broken bowl or mug could work beautifully as a planter for your garden.
Declutter Your Mind As Well: As you go about cleaning up your house, clean up your heart and mind as well. Decluttering your mind will refresh you, set you free and help you think better.
Organising and decluttering is never easy as there are many things you don’t want to let go of. This year, vow to throw all clutter away and welcome the New Year with a fresh, brighter, happier home and mind.
